Delays in police verification are majorly leading to the pendency of the issue of passports. Around 30,000 passports are pending at the passport office, said Regional Passport Officer K Srikar Reddy on Thursday.
In a meeting organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), the city police were alerted about this issue and asked to complete their process withn 3 weeks.
Another reason that was pointed out as the cause for the pendency of the application was the furnishing of incomplete details by applicants.
Sources say that a proposal was sent to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on accepting Aadhaar cards as identity and residence proofs. The proposal is reportedly in its final stages of approval.
The MEA had earlier approved the setting up of Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) at Karimnagar and Bhimavaram to enable the faster issuing of passports.
