Paramedics Call Off Stir

Agitating paramedical staff called off protest after Health Minister D Nagender assured in writing to fulfill their demands.
Hyderabad | 18th November 2010
It took a written assurance by Minister Of Health D Nagender to get protesting paramedical contract employees, who had locked themselves in some rooms inside the Vaidya Vidhana Parishat office at Koti, to come out.

The protesting paramedical employees had taken the step of locking themselves inside to press the government to solve their long-pending demands.

The protestors had staged a dharna in front of the office demanding that the government regularized the services of the employees on contract.

Nagender, at first, tried to convince the agitating staff to call off their protest, and had assured them that he would take a firm decision within a week. But the protestors, perhaps sensing that the minister's direct interaction with them was a golden opportunity, did not relent. They stated that if Nagender was so open to the idea of solving their long-pending demands, he might as well put his words in writing.

The striking employees came out of the room after the minister obliged by their demand.

The Paramedical Contract Employee's Association leaders had earlier warned that if their demands were not solved within a week, they would resume the agitation.

Earlier on Monday, Paramedical Contract Employee Association leaders had held a meeting with Nagendar which had failed. Thursday's protest was a result of that failed meeting.
