The President of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool today said that Mauritius was making dedicated efforts to develop the nation by drawing inspiration from the State of Andhra Pradesh, which was "progressing" through a blend of culture, tradition and modern technology.
The President visited the Sri Venkateswara Veda Vignana Peetham located at Dharmagiri in Tirumala. He was received by TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary and Veda Vignana Peetham Principal Kuppa Siva Subrahmanya Avadhani.
Later, special prayers were offered to Sri Venkateswara Swamy and Sri Godadevi Ammavaru at the Ananda Nilayam within the Vedic school premises.
During a special meeting held on the occasion, the Principal delivered the welcome address. Subsequently, faculty members and students of the Vedic school performed collective Veda Parayanam.
On the occasion, the Principal explained the history of the Dharmagiri Veda Vignana Peetham to the visiting dignitary.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that he had risen from the teaching profession to become the President of Mauritius. He also said that teachers enjoyed immense respect in society and played a vital role in the development of modern civilisation.
Recalling his earlier visit to attend the World Telugu Conference, he said that he had even then had the opportunity to have a darsanam of Sri Venkateswara Swamy along with his family.
He said that Andhra Pradesh was progressing with a strong foundation of culture, tradition and modern technology, and Mauritius was striving for similar development by taking inspiration from the State. He also said that Indians were at the forefront when it came to honouring and welcoming guests.
He announced that a decision had been taken to establish a Vedic school at the Harihara Temple currently under construction in Mauritius, with guidance and suggestions from the TTD.
