Osmania University students, trying to "lay seige" to the Raj Bhavan in protest of Governor E S L Narasimhan's reported opposition to the separation of Telangana, are in an ongoing battle with the OU police, who are determined to stop the students from getting out of the campus. While the police are firing tear-gas shells wherever they see groups gathering, and using their batons on students who seem especially unruly; stones and screams seem to be the students' weapons of choice.
Members of the OUJAC firmly maintain that whole program could have gone by in a peaceful manner if only they hadn't been "provoked" by the police who are arresting students "merely because they want to book cases". The police, on the other hand, are just as vehement in their stand that they are trying to stop the students from taking out a rally in as peaceful a manner as possible, especially when it was the students who first started throwing stones at the police.
"We have orders not to let any rally or dharna happen today. We are only following our orders. If the students had sought our permission, perhaps we could've considered letting their rally happen," said the OU police inspector.
Meanwhile, several students have been arrested, and one student and a few police officers have incurred mild injuries.
