In a hugely attended congregation of students, the members of the Osmania JAC - and assorted other people including lawyers and invitees from KU - who spoke today on stage all eulogized the Osmania University for being the bedrock of many a movement right from the 1920s, and swore that they would lay down their lives for Telangana.
These were the primary things that transpired:
- Telangana martyrs were mourned, and a demand for Rs. 10,00,000 per family was demanded of the government.
- The JAC said that there would be war in Hyderabad if separate statehood was not given to Telangana.
- The JAC threatened to burn the offices in Hyderabad and Telangana of all political parties that opposed the demand for Telangana.
- The JAC threatened to drive out of Hyderabad/Telangana anyone who dared to talk of a united state.
- 2010 was declared as Telangana sadhana year in Osmania University, and no student would be allowed to take exams this year - there would only be fights and protests, and the students would go on fighting until a separate state was achieved.
- The JAC demanded that the Union government introduce a bill for separate statehood for Telangana in Parliament immediately, without requiring any resolution to be passed in the state Assembly.
- If the Union government did not declare separate statehood for Telangana firmly on January 5, all buses and trains from Andhra would be stopped.
- If the Union government did not declare separate statehood for Telangana firmly on January 5, 30 lakh natives of Andhra who go for Sankranti would not be allowed to return to Hyderabad.
- The JAC stated that Hyderabad was part of Telangana, and that no one from Andhra had any claim on it.
- Chandrababu Naidu was dissed at for not taking a firm stand for a separate state, and threatened.
- The JAC wanted all cases against students to be dropped. Representatives of Telangana lawyers assured students that they would get the latter out on bail for any cases.
- The JAC said students would go to villages in the 10 districts of Telangana to gather opinion.
- The JAC wanted talks on Telangana not in New Delhi but in the OU campus.
- The JAC wanted all political parties to make their stance on Telangana clear a day before the Jan 5 meeting in New Delhi.
- The JAC said that they were not against poor people in Andhra, and that they would treat ordinary people in Andhra and Rayalaseema as brothers, going there to celebrate Sankranti and inviting them to Telangana for Dassera.
- The JAC said that they would lay down their lives if needed to acquire a separate state.
The meeting saw a large gathering at the Osmania University Arts College compound, who cheered everything anyone said about war against the government or against United Andhra activists, and whenever anyone mentioned shedding blood.
The nearly 3 hour long meeting also had peppering it, multiple programs showcasing Telangana folk arts. While Mandakrishna Madiga and Gaddar were not allowed inside by the police (the HC said that only students would be allowed), freedom fighter 95-year-old Konda Lakshman Bapuji made a brief speech.
