Osmania's Telangana Garjana On Jan 3
High Court gives go-ahead to JAC to conduct Telangana meeting tomorrow, but only with students participating.
Hyderabad | 2nd January 2010
The Andhra Pradesh High Court today gave the Osmania Joint Action Committee (JAC) permission to conduct its meeting for the cause of Telangana tomorrow.
Justice Nagarjuna, while giving the go-ahead through the Hyderabad city police commissioner, said that only students can take part in the meeting, and that it can be held between 4pm and 6pm only.
The meeting will start at the Arts college campus. Earlier in the day, police and CRPF were deployed in the campus to prevent outbursts, as the government had not given permission for a meeting or rally to take place, because of a possibility of law and order problems.
The HC order states that there cannot be any rally, and that students cannot arrive or leave in processions. It also said that the Telangana JAC will be held responsible if there is any eruption of violence, or if the meeting extends beyond 6:30pm, and that it would be treated as contempt of court.
On expected lines, K Chandrasekhar Rao said that the HC order was a victory for the Telangana movement, and said that if the government did anything to scuttle or enfeeble the meeting, it would amount to contempt of court.
