Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, on Tuesday, accused the opposition parties of trying to push Andhra Pradesh into a crisis over the state's bifurcation issue.
Addressing a meeting held in connection with the 69th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had openly supported Telangana statehood by writing a letter to the Centre, but has now taken a U-turn after the Congress Working Committee announced its decision on Telangana.
He said that the YSR Congress party, which had passed a resolution in its plenary supporting statehood for Telangana, is also now resorting to politics, with its honorary president Vijayamma undertaking a fast without clarifying her stand.
Botsa alleged that the opposition parties are trying to take advantage of the prevailing situation in the state while trying to defame the Congress. Recalling the services of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he condemned the desecration of their statues during the Samaikyandhra agitation.
Former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao, former PCC president D Srinivas, ministers Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Danam Nagender, Vatti Vasanth Kumar and others also spoke. (INN)
