A meeting of the Telangana Joint Action Committee was held on Tuesday. KCR, who has maintained silence after the Jan 5 statement by Chidambaram, made the opening address.
During the meeting, KCR announced that on 18th of this month, TRS leaders will meet the Speaker in order to force him to accept their resignations. He said he was tired of speaking to the Centre about the Telangana issue, and that there is no option now but to create a constitutional and political crisis in the state so that their demands are met. He said the Telangana agitation would be stepped up in the region, after the 18th.
The meeting saw a ruckus when Congress MLAs said they were willing to tender their resignations but weren’t able to do so in the time that the JAC had laid out. The leaders of other parties, however, agreed to submit their resignations on Jan 18.
Congress ministers Jana Reddy and Damodar Reddy said there was no question of Congress leaders going back on their resignations, and said they would abide by the JAC’s decision no matter what.
When Manda Krishna Madiga (president of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi) accused the Congress and TDP of trying to put the Telangana issue on the backburner and using the JAC for their own benefit, the meeting broke down, with absolutely unmanageable chaos setting in.
