Only 1% Of Promised 2BHK Units Given: Congress

The party said that as against the sanctioned 2,80,616 2BHK houses in 31 districts, not even 5% had been constructed, and not even 1% had been handed over.
Hyderabad | 25th August 2020
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy alleged that the TRS government headed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was misleading the poor people on the issue of the promises of giving them free double bedroom houses.

Reddy said that as against the sanctioned 2,80,616 double bedroom houses in 31 districts, not even 5% had been constructed, and not even 1% had been handed over to the beneficiaries.

He said that a cabinet minister had recently issued a statement announcing that as many as 4,358 2BHKs would be ready across 21 locations and handed over to beneficiaries on Dasara. But GHMC Mayor Dr Bonthu Rammohan had made another statement giving different figures for the number of 2BHKs ready to be delivered.

He said that the TRS government should be ashamed of itself for making such statements to mislead the poor people.

"As per the Intensive Household Survey conducted by the state government in August 2014, there are more than 22 lakh BPL families living in rented houses. The TRS leaders tricked the people by promising them 2BHKs free of cost. Before the GHMC elections in 2016, the TRS government completed 396 units in IDH Colony and used its pictures for publicity to cheat the people. Consequently, the people voted for the TRS in the GHMC elections. TRS and MIM leaders cheated the poor by collecting lakhs of application forms for 2BHKs and dumping them in the garbage after the elections. As an eyewash, 2.8 lakh houses, including 1.65 lakh in Hyderabad, were sanctioned. However, not more than 25,000 units are in any stages of construction, and might be ready before the GHMC elections. Now the TRS leaders will use these houses as publicity tools to get votes in the next GHMC elections," he said.

Reddy demanded that the state government issue a White Paper on the 2BHK houses scheme and specify the status of over 2.5 lakh 2BHK units sanctioned. Further, it should also explain the status of the more than 20 lakh applications it had received for 2BHK units.

He also pointed out that the state government had only erected long structures with no basic amenities. There were no sewerage lines or STPs at 52 locations. And many units were located in Hyderabad's outskirts with no proper roads, drinking water supply or other amenities, he alleged.

"It is justified to claim 100% fulfillment of promise by delivering less than 25,000 units as against the sanctioned 2.82 lakh houses?" he asked, adding that the KCR government should also explain how it proposed to provide housing to the remaining 20 lakh families who did not own a house in Hyderabad.
