Alleging huge irregularities and corruption in the construction and allotment of 2BHK units for weaker sections in Kamareddy district, Congress senior leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir today demanded a high-level enquiry.
Led by Shabbir Ali, hundreds of Congress activists staged a dharna after inspecting the double-bedroom units at Tekreal in Kamareddy district.
Speaking to media persons, Shabbir Ali said that the entire 2BHK scheme had been hijacked by BRS leaders for personal gains. He said that the BRS MLAs allotted the houses to their followers and those who paid huge bribes of lakhs of rupees. The eligible homeless families were completely ignored and not even one of them got a house, he claimed. Demanding stern action against these irregularities, he demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the list of selected beneficiaries, and called for a re-selection process to identify deserving families.
The Congress leader also demanded the establishment of clear guidelines for identifying eligible individuals, with priority given to widows, single women and disabled persons.
Shabbir Ali also alleged that the construction of the entire 2BHK project was sub-standard, and demanded that it be demolished and re-constructed. Further, he said that the entire money for the demolition and reconstruction should be collected from the contractor. He alleged that the KCR government was a "commission government" which granted huge projects to inefficient contractors for the sake of bribes.
"Except for the family of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the BRS leaders, no one gained from the formation of Telangana. While KCR got a palatial bungalow, Pragathi Bhavan, constructed for himself within no time by spending over Rs 500 crore of public money, he completely neglected the poor homeless people of the State who have been waiting for shelter for the last 9 years," he said.
The Congress leader also expressed disappointment over the BRS government's failure to fulfill the dreams of the poor of owning their own homes. He said that the people of Telangana were completely neglected in the BJP government's central scheme PM Awas Yojana.
Kamareddy DCC District President Kailasa Srinivasa Rao and other senior leaders participated in the dharna.
