The threat to women's safety from cab drivers once again came to the fore with the arrest of a 22-year-old Ola cab driver.
According to the police, a woman engaged an Ola cab from Lingampally to her residence in Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday. However, the cab driver, instead of proceeding towards Vanasthalipuram, allegedly diverted the vehicle on to the P V Narasimha Rao Express Highway by engaging her in chat and pestering her to give her phone number.
The woman suddenly realized that the cab was proceeding in a wrong direction and began shouting for help. The local people in Aramghar heard her shouts and stopped the vehicle. In the meantime, the SHE Teams police arrived at the spot after the passenger alerted them on the official Whatsapp number 9490617111.
The Ola driver K Shiva Kumar of B N Reddy Nagar was arrested, and a case was registered against him under Sections 354 and 354 D of the IPC.
