Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) today formally received a purchase order for a Rs 12,800 crore EPC contract from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to construct two 700 MW nuclear reactors - Kaiga Units 5 and 6 - in Karnataka.
This is the largest order ever placed by NPCIL, and also marks MEIL's first major step into the nuclear energy sector - a field that will play a pivotal role in shaping India's energy future.
The order was formally handed over at NPCIL's Mumbai headquarters to MEIL Director (Projects) Ch P Subbaiah and his team.
For the first time, NPCIL used the Quality-cum-Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method to award this project. Competing with industry giants like BHEL and L&T, MEIL was chosen for its strong technical approach and competitive pricing.
The leadership of MEIL expressed confidence in its team's ability to deliver the project on time while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and care.
This move into nuclear energy adds a new chapter to MEIL's journey and strengthens its growing role in shaping India's infrastructure and energy future.
