Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today made a visit to the city's Bowenpally vegetables market, which has recently caught the attention of many for its waste-to-power project.
She inspected the market and its biogas and electricity production unit, and also interacted with the market's authorities and vendors.
Praising the authorities for their "innovative" idea to turn organic vegetable waste into usable fuel and electricity, the Governor said, "Your success in using vegetable waste for the production of electricity and fuel is commendable. This must be replicated in more markets across the city and the state. The establishment of similar units will greatly help the cause of sustainability in the state."
She also encouraged the officials to remain committed to the upkeep of the market, and to try and process the waste in quick intervals, to maintain hygiene in the area.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too
recently praised the project, and commended it for turning "waste into wealth".
The Bowenpally project yields 500 units of electricity and 30 kgs of biofuel from every 10 tonnes of vegetable waste. The electricity produced is then used to fulfil the power needs of the market itself. The biofuel generated in the plant too is used for cooking in the mandi canteen. It really is a great leap forwards in sustainable development for the state
