NTR University PG Counselling Halted
The NTR University PG medical counselling in Vijayawada was halted by OC students who alleged that the roster system followed affected their chances of bagging a seat.
The Dr. NTR University PG medical counselling that began on April 28th, ground to a halt this morning, with students belonging to Other Castes (OC) staging a protest outside the NTR University For Health Sciences campus.
The counselling process had started in the Vijayawada university on April 28th, after the High Court clarified that the university should first fill 85% of its 2,000 seats with local students, and then proceed to admit non-locals for the rest of the seats.
2 separate rosters were prepared for each region, and the 100-point roster and reverse roster were operated for each 100 points.
However, the OC students felt that the roster system was depriving them of a fair chance to bag the seats. The students stood in a large gathering outside the NTR University For Health Sciences campus, demanding that the university reveal the roster.
The angry crowd did not let the university officials start the counselling session today, and the city police had been called to prevent the students from entering the campus.
The NTR university had on April 20th issued a notification on the counselling procedure that would be followed, wherein they stated that the selection of candidates would take place according to GO 74, that unreserved seats would be allocated to students according to GO 93, and that the final selections would take place in conformation with GO 646.
