Hyderabad | 15th October 2012
Minister for Information Technology and Communications Ponnala Lakshmaiah launched the MeeSeva portal and MeeSeva-Airtel Money Services at a private hotel on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government's vision was to ensure that people living across the state uniformly avail the benefits of the government schemes and programs in a transparent, seamless and instant manner without any hassles.

Regarding AirTel Money, he said, "With an estimated 90 crore people in India using mobile phones, the ubiquitous mobile device has become an integral part of our country's lifestyle, allowing customers not only to connect with one another, but also do much more. The new initiative, Airtel-Mee Seva, is focused at driving innovations using the mobile platform. Through this, Airtel users will be able to make all utility bill payments."

He said that he hoped that this service would bring about a radical change in the way the citizens of AP transact.

The minister described the MeeSeva-Airtel Money platform as a "unique citizen?centric service initiative".

Ponnala also launched the Mee Seva portal "www.meeseva.gov.in" on this occasion. He said both the eSeva normal bill payment system and the Mee Seva ? Certificates Delivery system have been integrated to enable citizens to make payments through Mee Seva as well.

The MeeSeva portal helps users make payments using credit cards, debit cards, net banking, cash cards and the concept "Airtel Money".

Users registered with www.esevaonline.com can make transactions through meeseva.gov.in to make payments for bills of as many as 12 services. The portal also provides an automated payment gateway for payments to participating departments that include District e-governance societies (Revenue Department), SSLR, Registration department and GHMC.

The minister said that the automated payment gateway would be extended to all participating departments like TRANSCO, Water Works and RTA in the near future.

"Certificates and documents offered through Mee Seva are digitally signed, legally valid, and printed on secured stationery and delivered across the counter or through post," he announced.

Mee Seva was launched by the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on a pilot basis on November 4 last year, with 12 services in Chittoor district. Currently, it is available in all districts, with 38 services, and the government claims it is serving nearly 50,000 citizens every day.

Ponnala said that by March 2013, 100 services pertaining to various departments would be available to citizens. He added that the transactions were expected to cross 100,000 per day.

"Efforts are being made to have a minimum of 150 centres in each district by December this year, to cater to the demand in a timely manner. Efforts are also on to add ration card services and Pattadar passbook services under Mee Seva by the end of this month," he said.

The minister also said that e-India - 2012, the largest ICT event in the country, would be held in the city on November 15-16, in which over 2,000 high-level representatives from all tiers of the government, the ICT industry, the civil society and academia from India and abroad would participate.

Bharati Airtel AP's CEO Sharlin Thayil, Secretary (IT&C) Sanjay Jaju and other senior officials were also present. (INN)
