Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav today said that no cases of avian influenza, known more commonly as bird flu, had been found in the state so far.
Following the outbreak of bird flu across several states in the country, the minister convened a high-level emergency meeting with the officials of the veterinary and animal husbandry departments at his Masab Tank office to discuss the preventive measures that needed to be implemented in the state.
After the meeting, he reassured the people of Telangana that the government was taking all the necessary precautions to avoid the spread of the flu, and urged them not to panic.
"Telangana has not been affected by the recent bird flu outbreak. Please do not worry about the situation as we are taking all the requisite steps to ensure that the disease does not spread in our state. We have already directed 1,300 officials across the state to monitor the situation constantly, and to spread awareness regarding the disease and its prevention among the poultry farmers. Our team has already tested 276 birds do far, and will continue to test more birds from across the state in the coming days," Yadav said.
State animal husbandry director Laxma Reddy, officials of the Telangana State Veterinary Biological and Research Institute, and representatives of various poultry companies attended the meeting.
The news of the outbreak of the avian disease is causing many people of the country to panic since the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic still rages on across the world. Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala and Gujarat have reportedly been badly impacted by the bird flu. Chicken sales have been banned in four states already, and the Telangana government too is taking many critical decisions to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
