Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy promised that the Telangana government would not increase bus fares.
Hyderabad | 19th December 2016
Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, during the Telangana Legislative Council session, promised that the Telangana government would not increase bus fares and instead Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao allotted Rs. 1,000 crores to help the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to mitigate losses.
There were no plans to increase bus fares and burden the people of the State, he promised while replying to queries posed by Congress members including Mohammad Ali Shabbir, P Sudhakar Reddy, M Ranga Reddy and A Lalitha.
Even as previous governments had been increasing bus charges every year, the TRS government did not do so to avoid burdening the general public. The Minister further said that there was only an increase of Rs. 1 per 30 km for Palle Velugu buses, Rs. 2 beyond a distance of 30 km and 10% on other tariffs.
The TSRTC was incurring a loss of Rs. 600 on itself, and registering a revenue of Rs. 218 crores while bearing a burden of Rs. 314 crores, he said. He added that KCR had given the transport authority Rs. 350 crores for availing new buses, and offered bank guarantees for Rs. 500 crores.
