The State government has decided to scrap the practice of a notary issuing certificates to college students to check their genuineness with immediate effect.
Announcing this at a press meet at the secretariat on Tuesday, Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said that Chief Minister K Rosaiah favoured removal of notary system in view of their small strength, and also the high charges being collected by the notaries from the college students.
The students are already submitting their other certificates in respect of caste and date of birth among others in support of their identity.
Bose also stated that the 5886 backlog posts of SC/ST will be filled up by July next year.
Besides that, the government would build 120 social welfare hostels at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.5 crore in view of the demand, Bose said.
