Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan made some interesting comments today, saying that no force could stop her and that she would remain a strong force on the behalf of people.
She asserted that she would continue holding the Mahila Darbars, and would be the first person to fight for the rights of women.
The Governor launched the Mahila Darbar at Raj Bhavan today to hear the grievances of women and enquired about the problems of the participants. About 400 women had booked their participation in the program.
Speaking on the occasion, Soundararajan said that she would not remain a mute spectator when women from Telangana were facing atrocities and being meted out injustice, and that she would be a voice for the suppressed sections.
Expressing displeasure over her order to Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and DGP Mahender Reddy to send her a detailed report on the Jubilee Hills gang-rape incident within 48 hours not being obeyed, the Governor said that it was very unfortunate that the State government was not following the protocol and the Constitution.
"In general, I am not a controversial person. I am sincerely working to serve the people of Telangana. I respect the elected government. At the same time, the government should respect the Constitution and follow all the norms which I am expecting," Soundararajan said.
Responding to criticism of her Praja Darbars, the Governor said that there was nothing wrong in her conducting such programs, and that the Raj Bhavan was not a political party's office.
"Government offices are used for serving the people. I am doing what I can to help the people in my capacity. I request the State government to respect the Raj Bhavan and redress all the grievances which come to my notice," the Governor added.
