No Water Scarcity In Hyderabad For 50 Years: Talasani
Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the government was taking steps to ensure that Hyderabad would not face any scarcity of drinking water for the next 50 years.
Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the BRS government was taking steps to ensure that the State capital Hyderabad would not face any scarcity of drinking water for the next 50 years.
Addressing a "Drinking Water Day" event at West Marredpally on Sunday as part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, the minister said that the State government was taking permanent measures to prevent drinking water problems in Hyderabad, and had so far spent Rs 13,546 crore for laying new water pipelines and constructing reservoirs.
"Steps are being taken to avoid any drinking water scarcity in Hyderabad for the next 50 years by drawing water from the Godavari and Krishna rivers. In addition, the construction of the Sunkishala project has been taken up to draw water from the Nagarjuna Sagar project continuously," he said.
The minister said that prior to 2014 there were 8.15 lakh drinking water connections in Hyderabad, and that now they had increased to 13.17 lakhs.
The State government was also supplying 20,000 litres of drinking water monthly to each household free of cost, and was spending Rs 815 crore for the purpose, Yadav added.
