Telangana Health Minister C Lakshma Reddy today rejected the allegation that there were irregularities in the purchase of equipment for operation theaters in the State-owned Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, as baseless.
During the Question Hour, Congress members Sampath Kumar, Rammohan Reddy and Vamshichand Reddy claimed that there was a huge scam behind the purchase of medical equipment at the NIMS and demanded that the Telangana government take immediate steps to punish those involved in it.
Reacting to the accusations, the Minister said that the only time corruption existed in the NIMS was during the previous regime.
The TRS government already launched a probe into the accusations and found that they were not true, Lakshma Reddy claimed.
He also took a dig at the previous governments for not taking any steps to improve facilities of government-run hospitals in the State.
"We have taken up renovation and modernization works of NIMS and spent Rs. 47 crores for the same in two years," the Minister said. He also said that they had upgraded the hospital from 40-beds to 100-beds, recruited teaching and non-teaching staff, bought Rs. 2 crores worth furniture, and provided basic amenities and facilities to poor patients.
