With the number of patients seeking cardiac care on the rise, the executive Board of the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences has decided to set up 2 more 50-bedded cardiac units in the hospital.
The decision for the addition of the cardiac units as well as the nod for heart patients to purchase stents from outside the hospital was taken at the 53rd Executive Board Meeting of NIMS at the state secretariat on Friday.
The decision to allow patients to purchase stents from outside the hospital was taken after the recent controversy in which a high-level official was accused of taking kick-backs on the purchase of stents by some patients who wanted a specific type of stents.
Talking to media persons later, Minister for Medical Education P Sudarshan Reddy said that patients must contact the NIMS director for the specific stent and the director would give permission in 5 or 6 days.
