Both the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) had come down drastically in Telangana, and it was possible only because of the State government's relentless efforts to improve mother and child care facilities in its hospitals, claimed Minister for Health T Harish Rao.
Rao said that the State government had brought in revolutionary changes in the health sector by initiating various schemes for the welfare of the people, and that with this Telangana once again stood third in the country in the lowest number of maternal deaths.
Rao was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a state-of-the-art 200-bed Mother and Child Health (MCH) centre at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Speaking on the occasion, he said that earlier there were only three MCH healthcare facilities in Telangana, but that under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the number had increased to 27, with an overall bed strength of 600, thanks Rs 499 crore being spent.
Earlier, Rao also inaugurated a 100-bed free dialysis facility for chronic kidney patients at NIMS. He said that there were only 45 dialysis beds earlier, and that the capacity had now been increased by 100, which would provide dialysis care to at least 1,500 kidney patients on a daily basis.
