Just days after MLC K Kavitha, MP Santosh Kumar and minister S Niranjan Reddy urged the people of Telangana
to get vaccinated against the deadly novel coronavirus, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy today appealed to the public to strictly follow the Covid-19 prevention guidelines.
Both the Speaker and the Chairman addressed the media after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Hyderabad's NIMS.
Srinivas Reddy had taken the first dose of the vaccine on March 3. After taking the second dose today, he told the people that there was no need to harbour any misgivings about the possible side effects of the injection.
"I have not experienced any harmful side effects after getting inoculated, and am feeling fine. In fact, I did not even experience any pain or fever after the first dose. The vaccine is completely safe," he said.
The speaker then encouraged the people to also get vaccinated at the earliest, and appealed to those who had already been immunised to continue wearing masks, sanitising their hands and practising social distancing.
Sukender Reddy too told the media that he was feeling fine after having taken the second injection.
He expressed concern that some people in the state had become lackadaisical about the spread of Covid-19 in Telangana, and asked them to follow all the necessary precautions in order to prevent the spread of the disease. He also urged them to get vaccinated at the earliest.
There has been a considerable rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana. However, the state currently has a very low fatality rate - 0.55% against the national rate of 1.3%.
