Sahayog Organization in association with Wild Life Protection Society, Dhyan Foundation, Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh, Karuna International and other animal welfare organizations will rescue snakes from the clutches of snake charmers during the Nag Panchami festival on July 28.
Addressing the media today, Sahayog Organization general secretary Mahesh Agarwal appealed to the devotees not to feed milk to snakes since the reptiles could not digest milk and so it would be harmful for them. He exhorted devotees to perform pujas only at temples, since snake charmers who offered live snakes for puja subjected them to various types of cruelties which in turn would kill the snakes in a short time.
Agarwal said that some 20 volunteers of various animal welfare organizations would go around the Greater Hyderabad limits on Nag Panchami day to check snake-related activities. The rescued snakes would be released into their natural habitat as per the directions of the forest department.
A helpline - 9394005600 - was also set up in this connection, he added.
