Nethi Vidyasagar Rao was unanimously elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council on Tuesday.
As no other nomination was filed on Monday, the last day for nominations, Vidyasagar Rao's election became just a matter of paperwork.
Council Chairman Swamy Goud administered him the oath of office in the House. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao greeted him on the occasion and escorted him to the Chair.
Speaking on the occasion, KCR said that the election of Vidyasagar Rao as Deputy Chairman had enhanced the stature of the Council as he had played a key role in the statehood movement. He called upon younger politicians to emulate Rao's ideals.
KCR also praised Rao for his ability to ensure a smooth conduct of the Council during the first session after Telangana's formation.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiam Srihari and Mahamood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy and others also congratulated Vidyasagar Rao over his unanimous election.
Before the bifurcation of the united State, too, Vidyasagar Rao had held the post (during the Congress regime). He was elected as a Congress MLC and served as Deputy Chairman. He was elected on a TRS ticket again in June 2015.
