Siddipet MLA, BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao today strongly objected to the suspension of Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy, of the BRS, from the Telangana Assembly.
As soon as Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar announced Reddy's suspension for the remainder of the session, Rao raised his voice in protest, questioning the fairness of the decision.
Addressing the Speaker, he said that even in cases of capital punishment, the accused were given a final opportunity to speak. "Why are we being denied a chance to present our side in the House?" he asked.
As Rao posed his questions, BJP Legislature Party leader Eleti Maheshwar Reddy began his speech, while Congress MLAs, including Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao, reportedly reacted with smiles and laughter.
In response to the Speaker's ruling, the BRS MLAs staged a walkout, demanding the right to express their views before any disciplinary action was taken.
Following his suspension, Jagadish Reddy moved to the chamber of Leader of Opposition K Chandrashekar Rao. However, the Assembly Chief Marshal directed him to vacate the chamber.
The BRS legislators countered this directive, arguing that Reddy had only been suspended from the House, not from accessing the chamber of the opposition leader.
The suspension has sparked political tensions, with the BRS strongly opposing what they term an "undemocratic" decision by the Speaker.
