The Communist Party of India (Maoist) today announced an extension of its ceasefire in Telangana for another six months.
The decision was conveyed through a letter issued by the Telangana State Committee of the CPI (Maoist).
The letter stated that several large-scale movements had taken place across Telangana in recent months to sustain a peaceful atmosphere, and that the State government had responded positively to these efforts. As a result, the party, which had initially declared a six-month ceasefire in May this year, had, in line with public sentiment, decided to extend it for another six months, it said.
"During April, May and June, all parties, public organizations and social groups in Telangana made significant efforts to maintain peace, and the State government also responded accordingly. Over the past six months, we implemented measures to sustain this peaceful environment. The Telangana society wishes for this to continue. Therefore, in accordance with the people's aspirations, we are extending the ceasefire for another six months," the statement said.
The Maoist party reiterated its commitment to peace and urged the Telangana government to maintain its cooperative approach. However, it accused the BJP-led Union government of attempting to disturb the prevailing peace in the State. Party spokesperson Jagan called upon all political parties, social groups, associations, students, intellectuals and democrats to openly resist the Union government's efforts to disrupt Telangana's peace, the statement said.
