Power generation at the 7th unit of the Narla Tatarao thermal power station in Vijayawada was affected on Tuesday after an 'explosion' in a transformer there.
According to sources, the transformer 'explosion' has completely halted the operations in the unit, which generates 500 MW power.
Sources say that even as officials are trying to ascertain the reasons behind the explosion, they believe that overheating of the transformer may be the most likely cause.
The NTTP authorities, however, say that they will look into all possible causes, including technical flaws, to prevent further mishaps of this kind.
Earlier, power generation had been affected in the 4th unit of the power station due to a technical problem on Monday.
NTTP officials are working overtime to restore power generation in both the units.
