Actor-turned-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna today expressed his appreciation for the nation's scientists who had developed an "effective" Covid-19 vaccine, and said that the development of the indigenous vaccine was a matter of national pride.
He made these remarks after hoisting the tricolour on the occasion of Republic Day at the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute.

The popular leader then said that it was a matter of even greater pride that the indigenous vaccine was being used by various foreign countries across the world.
He also paid his respects to all those who had lost their lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and praised the "unending efforts" of the doctors and other health workers who had worked "tirelessly" throughout the pandemic.
Commenting on the ongoing vaccination drive, Balakrishna said he was filled with hope at seeing the "excellent" way in which the Covid-19 vaccination program was being executed in the two Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and added that he hoped that with the coming of the vaccine, the pandemic would soon see its end.
The TDP leader urged the people of the two Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to work hard for the development of society by drawing inspiration from the lives of the freedom fighters of the country.
