Naidu, KCR Mum On Rohith Suicide: T-Congress
Hyderabad | 20th January 2016
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief official spokesperson Dasoju Sravan Kumar asked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu why they were not responding to the University of Hyderabad student Rohith Vemula's suicide though the leaders across the nation were reacting to it.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday along with official spokespersons M Raji Reddy, G Srinivas Yadav, Charan Koushik and Indira Shobhan, Sravan said that most of the Opposition leaders - Rahul Gandhi, Seetharam Yechuri, Asaduddin Owaisi, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and others - had visited the university after Vemula's death, but the two Telugu Chief Ministers were not reacting to it.
He said that KCR, who had time to visit a clothes shop leisurely, couldn't find any time to speak on the student's death.
"Both Chief Ministers have a duty to respond to the death of the student," he said.
Sravan also found fault with Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and BJP MLC Ramchander Rao for stating that the Congress was politicizing the university issue. who He alleged that Dattatreya had actually politicized a student unions' issue by addressing letters and entering the University premises, and that the BJP government was scripting conspiracies around the dalit student's suicides. He alleged that the maintaining of silence by the two Telugu Chief Ministers would make them, too, part of the conspiracy.
Wondering at Nizamabad MP K Kavitha's reaction to the death of Vemula, he asked her why she was not getting her father to make a statement on it rather than get the Telangana Jagruthi activists to storm Bandaru Dattatreya's residence. Kavitha's reaction to Rohit's death looked like a political stunt, he said.
He also asked IT minister K T Rama Rao, who criticizes Prime Minister Modi on every possible platform, why he was not getting his government to arrest Bandaru Dattatreya, and why it was instead providing police protection to him with 500 police personnel.
