Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu extended his deepest condolences on the death of U Srinivas, a mandolin pioneer and world renowned Carnatic musician.
The Chief Minister said that he was saddened by the sudden death of the great musician who hailed from Andhra Pradesh.
He added that Srinivas' demise was an immeasurable loss to the Carnatic music world.
Srinivas passed away due to liver failure today at a hospital in Chennai.
Playing the electric mandolin, Srinivas collaborated with the world-famous musicians like John McLaughlin, Michael Nyman and Michael Brook. He was awarded the Padma Sri in 1998 at a young age of just 29. He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010.
A child prodigy, Srinivas learnt the mandolin at the age of 6. His brother U Rajesh is also an accomplished mandolin player.
Srinivas toured Australia, South-East Asia, South-West Asia, United States, Canada and many other countries for concerts. (INN)
