The Delhi High Court, on Friday, directed former Congress leader N D Tiwari to undergo a DNA test in connection with a paternity suit filed by a person called Rohit Shekhar, who claims to be Tiwari's biological son.
While issuing these orders, the High Court observed that the police can intervene, if necessary, to collect the DNA sample from Tiwari.
The court set aside the single judge's order that a veteran Congress leader cannot be forced to give blood smears in a paternity suit.
Earlier,
the court had asked Tiwari to undergo a DNA test, but he refused to undergo the test, and challenged it in the Supreme Court. The apex court refused to issue a stay order in the case.
In his petition, Rohit Shekhar claimed that Tiwari had a relationship with his mother Ujjwala Sharma, and stated that Tiwari was his father.
In earlier court hearings, he produced dozens of photographs that show Tiwari attending various family functions of his, including Rohit's birthday celebrations.
But Tiwari argued that being forced to share a blood sample violates his right to privacy, and described the case as an attempt to malign his image. (INN)
