BRS MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao's son Mynampalli Rohith's entry into the Congress has created ripples in the Medak district.
Medak District Congress Committee president Kanthareddy Tirupati Reddy resigned from the Congress in protest against Rohith's induction.
He also resigned from the primary membership of the party, and wrote a letter to this effect to the party high command.
Opposing the induction of Rohith into the party, Reddy said, "I was initially promised the party ticket. It is clear that workers like me who have worked hard for the party have no place in the party. It is painful to see that tickets are given only on the basis of money bags without recognising the services, sacrifices and hardships of the party leaders and workers."
Reddy, however, did not reveal which political party he would join.
The Congress is yet to respond to development.
For the uninitiated, Mynampally Hanumanth Rao had requested the BRS leadership to give the party ticket from Medak to his son Rohith, but the BRS did not respond positively, and sitting MLA Padma Devender Reddy was alloted the party ticket. Following this, Rao criticized minister Harish Rao and resigned from the BRS after holding meetings with his supporters in the Malkajgiri and Medak Assembly constituencies.
Rao then joined the Congress on September 28 in the presence of AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. As part of the deal, he will contest from Malkajgiri, and his son Rohith from Medak.
Rao had represented the Medak Assembly seat during 2009-2014 on behalf of the TDP, and has a base there. Rohith has been holding programs in the constituency for some time now to contest the next Assembly elections from there.
