Prominent intellectuals were among hundreds of youth and children who participated in the Muslim 'Maha Garjana' organized at Indira Park on Sunday to express solidarity with separate Telangana statehood protagonists.
Youth and women from the community formed a human chain and shouted 'Jai Telangana' slogans at the Maha Garjana.
Reacting to the Justice Srikrishna Committee's Report which stated that the Muslim community was not in favour of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Maha Garjana Convenor Hameed Mohamed Khan said that this was not true. He said that Muslims in Telangana were taking part in various agitations for Telangana actively since they first resounded in the 1970s.
Khan added that the Movement For Peace And Justice along with other organisations will try to meet Home Minister P Chidambaram on behalf of one crore Muslims of Telangana, and submit a memorandum to him calling for bifurcation of the state.
Muslim Joint Action Committee Convener Shahbaz Ali Khan said that All Muslims Wing of Telangana had held protest meetings in 23 districts for mounting pressure on the centre to table a bill in the Parliament.
