Kapu leader and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham has been put under house arrest for a week to maintain law and order, police officials said today.
Mudragada was put under house arrest for 24 hours on Wednesday when he had tried to go on a padayatra from his Kirlampudi village to the Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravathi in support of reservations for the Kapu community. Unrelenting, he tried to go on a padayatra again for a second time this morning from his house.
Speaking to the media later, OSD Raviprakash Reddy said that the period of house arrest of Mudragada had been extended till August 2 upon the orders of the district Collector. Additional police force had been deployed at the residence of the leader. he said.
Meanwhile, district SP Vishal Gunni said that the police had prevented Mudragada from going on a padayatra along with his supporters. He said that there was no permission for any such padayatra. The SP also said that prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC had been promulgated in the district.
