The CBI special court at Nampally, on Wednesday, remanded excise minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, who was
arrested by the CBI in connection with irregularities in allotment of lands for VANPIC project, to judicial custody till 7 June.
The court took this decision when CBI officials produced him in the court, following the expiry of his 5-day CBI custody.
The court also directed Chanchalguda Jail officials to treat Mopidevi Venkataramana as a "special category prisoner", and to allot him a special cell in the prison.
The court posted the hearing on Mopidevi Venkataramana's bail petition to Thursday, while directing the CBI to file a counter-petition in this regard.
CBI sleuths had arrested Mopidevi on 24 May, when he appeared before the CBI to face questioning in connection with the disproportionate assets case of Jaganmohan Reddy. He was questioned about the allotments made for the VANPIC project. Later, he was officially arrested, and produced before a court. (INN)
