The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the south-west monsoon was likely to hit Hyderabad on June 5.
The IMD stated that owing to the speedy movement of the annual monsoon winds, the city would experience light rains initially, and that they would intensify gradually.
Dr Y K Reddy, IMD incharge director, said that the monsoon was moving two days ahead of its scheduled arrival, and had already hit the Kerala coast and most of the north-eastern states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
"The presence of cyclone Mora which hit the Bangladesh coast has aided the advancement of the monsoon. We expect that the monsoon cover the whole of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from June 13," he said.
Hot weather would continue over coastal Andhra Pradesh till June 10 or till the date the monsoon arrived, the met said. Hyderabad continues to be hot, and recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, an official of the Cyclone Warning Centre at Visakhapatnam said the south-west monsoon advances in "pulses" and not as a "continuous stream", and takes a break after traveling for about 500 km. That could delay in its further advancement, he added.
