Andhra Pradesh BJP president Kanna Lakshminarayana today claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had never said that Special Category Status (SCS) would be given to Andhra Pradesh.
Kanna was speaking at a function organized to felicitate Sheik Baji on being appointed as the national secretary of the BJP Minority Morcha.
The AP BJP chief said that the Centre had announced a special package for AP on demand by Chandrababu Naidu in lieu of SCS. The Chief Minister then did not raise the issue of SCS for as long as he was with the NDA, but later took a U-turn for his political reasons and compulsions, Kanna alleged.
Kanna said that the Centre showed its inclination to help develop Andhra Pradesh by also extending support for the construction of the Polavaram project, and claimed that Chandrababu Naidu indulged in financial irregularities in the project. It was unfortunate that the credit for the central government's welfare programs was being taken by the Chandrababu Naidu government, which was portraying the Central welfare schemes as its own, Kanna alleged.
