Defections: Cong Questions Governor's Continuance
The Congress asked Telangana Governor E S L Narasimhan, who it alleged had failed to act against illegal defections, if he was justified in continuing.
Congress senior leader and former minister Marri Sashidhar Reddy has asked Governor E S L Narasimhan, who he alleged had failed to protect the Constitution with regard to the anti-defection law, to think about whether he was justified in continuing in his position.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan Monday, Reddy said that the issue of Commercial Taxes Minister and Sanath Nagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who took oath as a minister before his resignation was accepted by the Speaker, had become a hot topic even in the national capital.
He said that the Governor was expected to ensure that the relevant constitutional bodies initiated action against Talasani.
He also urged the Speaker to reveal whether he had received Yadav's resignation letter or not, and if he did, what action he had taken on it.
Demanding that the GHMC Commissioner convene an all-party meeting on the division of wards, the former minister said the division of wards was taking place in an improper way.
He opined that the division of wards needed to take place on the basis of population, and not upon whims and conveniences. (NSS)
