Telangana Telugu Desam Party leaders called on Governor E S L Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum urging him to order a CBI investigation in the multi-crore Miyapur land scam that came to light recently.
Led by TTDP President L Ramana, Working President A Revanth Reddy, legislators Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and R Krishnaiah and others, the delegation charged that under the KCR regime in the state, government lands in Telangana were ending up with land sharks. It further alleged that KCR was "gifting" the lands to those who had helped the TRS to come to power in the state.
"In fact, the kingpin in the Miyapur land scam Goldstone Prasad is not only having the support of the government, but is also being protected by it," the TDP leaders alleged.
Bringing to the notice of the Governor various aspects pertaining to the Miyapur scam, the TTDP leaders poohpoohed the claim of the government that it had exposed the scam on its own, when the shady deals in fact came to light only after an audit was conducted in the Kukatpally Sub-Registrar's Office in January this year.
The TTDP leaders were aghast that during a review meeting conducted by the Chief Minister with regard to the irregularities in land registration, a lady official of the CMO who was related to the alleged kingpin Goldstone Prasad was present.
The leaders also took strong objection to the Deputy Chief Minister, who is in charge of the revenue portfolio and who is also allegedly involved in the scam, being present at the review meeting.
The Governor was further informed by the TTDP delegation in the memorandum that Goldstone Prasad was an accused in many criminal activities abroad, and that cases were pending against him. The delegation wanted the Governor to seize the CCTV footages at the CMO and the CM's residence with regard to the frequent trips made by a car belonging to Goldstone Prasad.
Alleging that the policy of "anywhere registration" of lands was misused by the land sharks with the connivance of officials at various levels, the TDP leaders said that in one year alone 2,11,044 land registrations were done in the Ranga Reddy district limits. Irregularities and fraud were detected in as many as 1,04,000 land registrations done last year in the Hyderabad and RR districts.
The TTDP leaders charged that the entire land registration affair reeked of a scandal of unprecedented proportions involving bigwigs in the government besides the family members of the CM and his cabinet ministers.
Expressing their apprehensions about a fair probe by the state CID, the TTDP leaders told the Governor that that it was imperative to order a CBI investigation to bring to light the truth about the hidden hands of bigwigs and influential leaders in the scam and save precious government land.
