The MIM demanded that the state government immediately release a grant of Rs. 16 crore towards the scholarships for minority students.
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), consisting of 7 MLAs, appealed to the state government to sanction the matching grant of Rs. 16 crore towards scholarships to the students from minority communities immediately.
Stating that the Central government had granted Rs. 60 crore for scholarships to minorities´ students, MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asked the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to release the matching grant of Rs. 16 crore at the earliest.
Whereas the grants for SC/ST and BC students´ scholarships had been cleared by the government, the grants of the minorities were yet to be decided, he pointed out.
Speaking to media persons at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Owaisi said that he had given a representation to the Chief Minister, and had requested him to take a decision on priority.
Price rise also figured in his appeal to the government as the commoner found it difficult to meet both ends meet.
While asking Kiran Kumar Reddy to visit the old city for having a first-hand account of certain issues, Owaisi urged the Chief Minister to retain the Ayurvedic Hospital, housed in the Unani Hospital opposite the historic Charminar, in the old city itself.
He pointed out that the then Dr. Marri Channa Reddy government desired that the Ayurvedic Hospital be shifted to Sanathnagar where a new building had been constructed.
The shifting of the said hospital will put to inconvenience a lot of patients in the old city, and hence the MIM leader´s appeal to the Chief Minister.
Similarly, Owaisi asked the Chief Minister to visit City College and order its remodelling, as the college had produced many sportsmen in the past.
The MIM leader also said that he wanted protection of the old manuscripts kept in a building near Osmania University, the Daira-tul-Maarif.
Owaisi demanded that the cases following the Mecca Masjid blast be lifted immediately.
The MIM leader also appealed to Kiran Kumar Reddy to implement the Prime Minister´s 15-point program for minorities.
