The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Wednesday sought the expulsion of Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, of the BJP, from the State Legislative Assembly for violating his oath as a MLA.
In a representation to Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, AIMIM general secretary and MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that Singh's conduct was unbecoming of a member of the House, and that it had breached the House's privileges, resulting in collective contempt.
He also alleged that the MLA's remarks had resulted in diminishing the dignity of the Assembly.
Quadri said that Singh had also hurt the sentiments of Muslims across India by making a statement against the Prophet Mohammed and Islam, and that it was a blatant violation of his oath as an MLA.
"Secularism and fraternity are part of the basic structure of the Constitution. Raja Singh has repeatedly incited violence and promoted enmity, hatred and ill-will against Muslims. Thus, he has violated his oath to uphold the integrity of India. His latest video is the most recent example that he is unfit to be a member of the House," the AIMIM leader said.
"The Legislative Assembly has inherent powers under Article 194 of the Constitution to punish any person for breach of privilege and contempt of the House. These powers include the power to expel a member from the House," Quadri added.
