The All India Majlis Ithehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM, aka MIM) has opened its account in the prestigious Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
For the first time, the MIM has won seats in the Corporation - two. With this, the MIM, which was hiterto confined to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, has made its entry into the Mumbai municipal corporation, too.
The MIM fielded its candidates in 59 out of 227 wards, and won in the Cheetha Camp and Byculla wards.
Political analysts had predicted, though, that the MIM would win six to eight seats.
However, this is not the first electoral victory for the MIM in Maharastra. The party had won the Aurangabad and Byculla constituencies in 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
