Traffic came to a standstill due to the traffic restrictions imposed in view of the Million March in Hyderabad.
The traffic restrictions imposed by the police to ensure that the Million March call given in Hyderabad by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) goes unanswered left major roads in the city clogged and the citizens seething in anger.
The restrictions on the movement of vehicles and their diversions left traffic on major roads like Lakdi-ka-Pul, Masab Tank, Punjagutta, Khairtabad, Ameerpet, Banjara Hills, Nampally and Begumpet out of gear.
The impact of the restrictions was also felt on the arterial roads connecting the major roads, with vehicles, especially 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, trying to find a way and reach their destinations. The traffic diversions also meant that a few roads had to cope with additional flow, leaving vehicles to move at a snail's pace.
"I left home early because of the Million March call, but still I had to take long detours because of the road diversion in the city. Actually, I should have reached the examination centre before time but got late by 10 minutes since the traffic movement was so slow," said a student.
A motorist from Gandhi Nagar, who usually takes 15-20 minutes to reach Masab Tank, was able to reach his destination after more than an hour.
"I left home at around 10am to escape the traffic jam, but probably others, too, had the same idea. The traffic build-up was heavier than usual in the morning. It took me more than 20 minutes to pass the Lifestyle building at Begumpet. The traffic flow from Begumpet to Masab Tank was perhaps the worst possible", said Dr. Venkat Rao, a regular commuter on this stretch.
