March May Be Postponed: KCR

Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said that the Millennium March might be postponed due to requests by students and parents.
Hyderabad | 6th March 2011
In a sure sign that the pro-bifurcation outfits are scaling down the intensity of the separate statehood agitation, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday stated that he was open to the idea of postponing the proposed 'Millennium March'.

"A decision to this effect would be taken after consulting the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) members," KCR told media persons here.

The TRS chief pointed out that he had received appeals from parents and leaders of other pro-Telangana outfits calling for the postponing of the planned Millennium March from the earlier announced date of March 10th. He said that the anxiety of the parents and students who would be appearing for the Intermediate examinations was a factor to be taken into consideration.

"I will take a final decision after consulting JAC members. A final decision would be made after considering the interests of the lakhs of students and their careers," KCR stated.

Accusing the Centre of spreading 'misinformation' that it would solve the separate statehood demand issue after elections to some states are over, KCR said that this would not work. He demanded that the Centre announce its decision on Telangana state formation demand in the Parliament 'immediately'.

"The Congress should make its stand clear on Telangana instead of lobbying with MPs from Telangana region and seeking to postpone the decision till May," KCR said.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers Association stated that the government employees would extend total support to Millennium March. TNGO president Swamy Goud told media persons that the government must postpone the intermediate paper scheduled on March 10th, considering the students' interests.

Goud pointed out that the state government employees had earlier withdrawn their non-cooperation agitation following the requests by parents and students.

The TNGO chief also hinted that the Telangana statehood agitation would be intensified from the last week of April.
