The Telangana government has plans to introduce the free mid-day meal scheme in junior colleges, too, from next year.
This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Saturday after he laid the foundation stone for a girls' hostel and inaugurated a government junior college in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.
"Hopefully, we will launch the scheme during the 2018-19 academic year," he said.
Srihari also inaugurated digital classes in a government primary school at Kagaznagar in the district, and distributed spoken English books to the students.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that as part of the free KG-to-PG education scheme, the state government had launched 544 Gurukul schools.
BC Welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna, Housing Minister Indrakaran Reddy, MP Nagesh, MLA K Konappa and other officials accompanied Srihari.
Later, the ministers had lunch with the students.
