Municipal Administration And Urban Development minister M Maheedhar Reddy has claimed that all the hurdles in the Metro Rail Project have been cleared, and the that state government has been extending its support to L&T to ensure that it completes the project by 2016.
Addressing a press conference at the state Secretariat on Wednesday, the minister said that 60 pillars of the project have been grounded, and that works were in full swing on all corridors. He said that the people of the city would benefit from the Rs. 14,000 crore worth project.
The minister hoped that Hyderabad would get into the list of world's financial hubs after the Metro Rail Project and other projects being implemented by the GHMC, HMDA and other agencies are completed.
He also said that works on phasse II of the Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road would be completed in two months, and that the work on phase III would also be completed soon.
Speaking about the shortage of drinking water in the city, Maheedhar Reddy said that Hyderabad is currently facing a shortage of 120 million gallons per day. However, he said that the state government has taken certain steps on a war footing to bring water to the city from phase III of Krishna. Efforts are also on bring water from the Godavari river to the twin cities, he said.
The minister said that water supply, drainage, transportation, roads and housing facilities were the priorities of the first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and that they would continue to be so in the second phase. (INN)
