Mayor Promises 24 Stadiums In GHMC Limits

GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was committed to having a stadium and a swimming pool in each of the 24 Assembly constituencies in the GHMC jurisdiction.

The Mayor formally inaugurated the GHMC's summer coaching camps for 2014 at Victory Play Ground, Chaderghat, here on Thursday.

He said that the regular summer coaching camps this year had been delayed due to the election model code of conduct, and that the camp inaugurated today would run up to June 10.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Mayor urged the young sportsmen to utilize the facilities being provided by the GHMC wherein experienced coaches of various state sports associations would impart coaching to them.

He said that the GHMC was committed to make the Hyderabad a sports hub.

In his presidential address, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar praised the coaches for their efforts in training the young boys and girls.

He said that this year the GHMC had introduced "Mini Football" apart from regular coaching camps in 54 Games.

He also said that this year the GHMC was spending around Rs. 80 lakhs for summer coaching camps, and Rs. 31 crores had been allocated for overall development of infrastructure for sports activities in the GHMC limits.

He further informed that in order to benefit players, the GHMC had introduced a scholarship scheme where Rs. 5,000, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 would be given to the players of GHMC who had played in international tournaments, national championships and state-level events respectively, organized by respective sports associations.

Deputy Mayor G Rajkumar, Congress floor leader Diddi Rambabu, Corporators Wajid Hussain, P Gyaneshwar Goud and J Hemalatha, and others were present.

Over 3,000 children from all zones of the GHMC participated in the inaugural March Past. (INN)
