A major fire broke out at the Batcha Furniture Shop in Chirag Ali Lane, Nampally, today, triggering panic in the densely populated area.
The blaze reportedly started on the ground floor of a four-storey building and quickly spread to the upper floors, with flames raging for several hours. Huge flames were seen billowing from the shop.
Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and launched intensive firefighting operations. As many as 10 fire engines were pressed into service to bring the inferno under control. Thick smoke and intense heat severely hampered the rescue efforts.
According to preliminary information, six people, including two children and their mother, were reportedly trapped inside the building at the time of the incident, raising serious concern. Firefighters continued search and rescue operations amid the heavy smoke to locate and evacuate those trapped.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar reached the scene and personally monitored the situation. He directed officials to take all the necessary measures to swiftly contain the fire and ensure the safety of those inside the building.
The cause of the fire and details regarding casualties are yet to be ascertained.
